Ultrasound therapy


Ultrasounds are mechanical sound waves with an inaudible frequency to the human ear (greater than 20,000 Hz).


What is the effect of ultrasounds?

At the tissue level, ultrasounds have several effects:

  • Trophic: increased blood flow and microcirculation opening;
  • Mechanical: the oscillation of molecules and particles as a kind of tissue micro-massage;


When should it be used?

Ultrasound therapy should be used for the treatment of diseases related to tendon structures, periosteal and capsular as well as contractures. Among the main illnesses in which ultrasounds may be used are:

  • Osteoarthritis
  • Bursitis
  • Tendinitis
  • Tear or muscle sprains


What are the contraindications?

  • Carriers of pacemakers, cochlear implants or dentures;
  • Radiotherapy;
  • Thrombophlebitis;
  • Acute infections;
  • Pregnancy;
  • At Ortho-bio-med, ultrasounds are used for pain therapy.
